Answers from the Anvil
Curious minds and cautious hands — here be the truths you seek. From booking to blacksmithing, we’ve hammered out the details below so you don’t have to.
What Ye Seek, We’ve Set in Iron.
You’ll find us moored in Hero’s Harbor at Broadway at the Beach, tucked away in Unit 310—just across the way from Margaritaville.
All deposits count toward your final creation when you arrive to forge.
Know this: deposits be non-refundable, but may be shifted to another day or hour, if the forge’s schedule allows.
We accept gold, silver—nay, we mean cash, cards, and most modern methods of pay. As for indentured servitude… we’re only jestin’. Though if you’re seeking work at the forge, we’re always open to meeting new hands.
Mark This: Deposits made for longer voyages (extended experiences, groups, and classes) shan’t be refunded. They can be shifted to another day or hour, should space allow.
-
Know the lay of the land — find us within Broadway at the Beach, and give yourself plenty o’ time to make port.
-
Drink deep from the water’s well, before and during your time at the anvil. Water’s the lifeblood that keeps your strength up as you hammer.
-
Arrive at least 15 minutes before your session. This grants time to check in, claim your metal, sign the waiver, and take a moment to watch the forge’s fiery dance before stepping in.
-
Unbind tight garb and loosen yer shoes. The forge is no place for constriction — you’ll need freedom to breathe deep and move strong as you work.
The forge welcomes smiths of many years, though the work demands both mettle and muscle. The work is as varied as the crew, and we match each task to the skill and age o’ the smith.
-
Young hands of 6 years may shape a Flag Pendant or Hairpin, so long as a parent or guardian stands by.
-
From 9 years onward, Marlinspikes and Horseshoe Knives may be crafted with a guiding hand close.
-
At 12 years and beyond, stronger arms may forge Railspike Knives or Daggers — always with a guardian present.
Those who bear pacemakers, insulin pumps, defibrillators or other such vital devices must stand down from the forge. This shop stokes the embers with induction and the hum of unseen forces — fields of energy (EMFs) may clash with the workings of your gear. For safety’s sake, best keep to the sidelines while the steel sings.
Aye, they do! Every blade you forge will be clad in a natural-finish sheath, crafted by our skilled crew right here on these shores. For those seeking something grander, we offer finely tooled and dyed sheaths to deck your steel in style. And for the cutlass adventurers, a display box awaits to showcase your prized blade with honor.
Experience upgrades be the means to add a personal mark and extra skill to your forged treasure. Depending on the piece, you might choose to carve initials, ancient runes, or bind runes upon your blade or handle. Fancy a pommel fit for a captain? We offer decorations like Skulls, Crosses, Owls, or Flags to crown your creation.
For those crafting blades, a simple sheath comes with your work — but for the bold, upgraded sheaths adorned with original artwork and colors await your claim. Choose your upgrades when you check in — our shop holds a trove of design ideas to inspire your venture.
Aye, but such requests are handled at open forge and by appointment only. If your idea lies beyond our usual wares, contact us. We’ll see what may be done — but be warned, not all dreams can be struck in steel. The crew reserves the right to turn away that which can’t be done safely or well.
Laced boots or any stout shoes with covered toes are highly recommended. Should you arrive in sandals or slippers more fit for the parlor than the forge, we have leather footwraps on hand to set things right. Trousers or breeches offer fine protection, though skirts or shorts are fair game — just know this isn’t a place for frills or frippery.
While our forge doesn’t belch heat like dragon’s breath thanks to the magic of induction fire, the work still builds a sweat. Dress in light layers, with a cotton shirt as your base — it’ll serve you well once the hammer starts to swing. Natural fibers like cotton are favored. Synthetic threads like nylon or poly, may not hold up to the task and may call for a leather apron, which we’ll provide. The same goes for low necklines or loose-fitting tops.
Safety glasses will be provided unless your own specs are fit to fend off sparks. We have ear protection, too, should you wish to dull the din of the anvil’s song.
In short — loosen what’s tight, stow what dangles, and come ready for the forge to test more than just your hands.
To keep the forge running swift and on the hour, all hands must be checked in before the bell. There’s coin to settle, waivers to sign, upgrades to ponder, and a queue to join. We group up to four mates at once, and each needs their own signed waiver for every session. So arrive ahead of time— better early than left scramblin’.
Forge WaiverAye, walk-ins are welcome when the forge has room — but it’s always wiser to book ahead. For holidays, weekends, bands of four or more, or special days in Myrtle Beach, we strongly recommend claiming your slot weeks in advance.
Note: Specialty sessions like swords and axes require an appointment and a deposit that can’t be returned. These experiences also cannot be walked into, so be sure you plan ahead.
By the time the sun sets, your piece shall be ready. We’ll send word by call or text once the work is complete. If no word reaches you, return to the forge before the close of day to claim what’s yours.
If your confirmation email be showin’ a date, time, or time zone that don’t match your booking, don’t fret! Send a signal to our crew straightaway. Call us at 843-288-9786 or drop a line to blackflagforgeexp@gmail.com, and we’ll set yer reservation straight, sharp and sure.
Tippin’ the crew is much appreciated. Like sailors on the same ship, we share what’s given from smith to grinder, all working to make your steel gleam. A coin tossed to your smith is a coin shared with all who made your steel shine.
What’s Fair: 15% for solid service, 20% for a day well spent
Groups of five or more: An 18% gratuity shall be added
In most cases, no. Unknown steel may misbehave and poses risk. But if ye can name the metal true and our schedule allows, exceptions may be made. Call first and tell us your tale — we’ll decide if it’s safe to proceed.
